Project description

The aim of the measure was to expand the Elbe tunnel, by building a 4th tube (two carriageways, one hard shoulder), to increase its performance, on the connecting route sections of the A 7.

The total route of the measure 4th Elbe tunnel tube is approx. 4,500 m long, with a minimum diameter of 12.25 m.

Approx. 2,500 m of this was manufactured as a closed tunnel route, using a fully mechanical shield tunnelling machine with an outer diameter of 14.2 m.

Apart from the actual tunnel structure, the launching shaft and target shaft, within this building measure, all the required connections and conversions (ramps, supports and sound proof walls) regarding the existing infrastructure, were carried out.

Furthermore, three escape tunnels to the three other tubes of the Elbe tunnel were built.
