Project description
Mainz central train station is an important transport hub both for long distance, and local and regional transport.
Due to the new building and connection of the New Mainz tunnel, the bottleneck section of the two old Mainz tunnels between Mainz central train station and Mainz Süd has been defused.
The four-track expansion with its connected works, led to a qualitative and quantitative increase in performance, and sustainably improved the operating concept.
The project encompassed the following measures:
- New build of the two-track tunnel
- Installation of a solid track, sometimes on a mass-spring system to reduce noise and vibrations
- Equipping the tunnel with the components: overhead line, signalling technology, telecommunication and electrotechnical energy systems
- Adjustment of track systems
- Construction of an inclined elevator in the Eisgrub cutting, in the area of the rescue tunnels of the new Mainz tunnel
