Project description
In the course of the implementation of a pan-European high speed network, the expansion of the railway route Cologne – Aachen – Germany/Belgium border is an important part of the West-East main road.
The route is part of the TEN-HGV and is subject to TSI regulations.
The 2nd expansion phase includes two planning phases:
- Eschweiler train station 56,000 - 57,150 km
- Aachen-Rothe Erde train station 64,990 - 67,360 km
At the central train station Eschweiler, the passing track in the direction of Cologne will be extended, the stair housing and passenger transport facilities will be renewed, the platforms raised, and a roof planned over the platform along the station building.
Lifts enable disabled friendly access to the passenger tunnel.
The signalling technology facilities will be converted to electronic signal box technology.
In the area of Aachen-Rothe Erde, a platform in the direction of Eilendorf will be extended by 1,700 metres, the equipment will be adjusted and sound proof walls will be built.
