Project description
The route Berlin – Cottbus is part of the transregional transport axis Berlin – Görlitz, as a connection between the capital city and the regional centre of Cottbus.
As part of the network of services, with the route standard M160, it is a secured part of the network infrastructure of DB Netz AG.
The route is primarily served by local rail passenger transport.
The maximum speed on the route is 120 km/h.
The aim of expanding the route Berlin – Cottbus is to increase the speed of the route to 160 km/h, in order to achieve the requirements for a reduction in the travel time on passenger transport between Berlin – Cottbus to approx. 60 minutes, and the introduction of a route maximum speed of 120km/h on goods transport.
The measures were accepted into the Plan for Federal Traffic Routes in 2003, as a new project with a priority need.
