Project:
Electrification of the Filzenexpress, route 5710

Service period:
2016 – 2016

Project client:
DB RegioNetz Infrastruktur GmbH

Project volume:
€ 22,000,000

Project description

The so called “Filzenexpress” route 5710, which runs along a total of 24.7 kilometres from Grafing train station, Ebersberg via Steinhöring, Tulling, Forsting, Edling to Wasserburg (Inn) train station.

The town of Wasserburg itself cannot be reached with this line.

The owner of the rail infrastructure is DB Netz AG.

The section Grafing – Ebersberg is already electrified, and part of the lines S4 and S6 of the suburban railway Munich. The infrastructure operator of this subsection is DB Netz AG.

The section Ebersberg (Upper Bavaria) – Wasserburg (Inn) train station, is operated by Südostbayernbahn (South East Bavaria railway).

The regional transport, including connections to Munich – East, is operated by DB RegioNetz Verkehrs GmbH Südostbayernbahn.

The route 5711 Wasserburg (Inn) train station to Wasserburg (Inn) town has been out of operation since 1987.

Railcars from the series 628.4 are currently being used on the route. The diesel railcars reach a maximum speed of 80 km/h, and require around 36 minutes for the route, with 6 stops. Since December 2014, the route has been used in a one-hour cycle, as far as possible.

Since the integration of the route into the tariff system of the MVV (Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund [Munich transport and tariff association]) in December 2015, there have been thoughts about extending the suburban railway line 4 and/or 6 after Ebersberg, to Wasserburg a. Inn.

In the scope of this project, the basic requirements should be achieved, with the electrification of the track, for suburban railway vehicles to travel on the track section.
