Frankenschnellweg [Franconian expressway] Nuremberg New build of the intersection (Kreuzungsbauwerk)

To the West of the Frankenschnellweg, the South city accumulator and port accumulator cross in the so called Kreuzungsbauwerk (intersection).

For the Frankenschnellweg in the tunnel, the conversion and/or new build of the intersection is required, between the Frankenschnellweg, a turbine hall, gas pipes, district heating bridge and fire brigade access road.

As the new build of the intersection must take place during traffic, outflows up to 21 m³/s should run through the excavation pit.

The intersection will be built from two pipe bends with 2.5 m diameter.

The two pipe bends will be put together from individual GFK pipes, with straights and segment bends, which will be connected to pipe couplings and fixed onto the bottom of the excavation pit.

Then, the waterproof GFK construction will be completely embedded in concrete or even fibre concrete.

In this way, with sufficient preparation, it will be possible to build the intersection quickly.

At the same time, a hydraulically beneficial crossing,of the waste water flows can be realised.
