Project:
Rail connection Berlin Brandenburg International airport
Service period:
2004
–
2012
Project client:
Flughafen Berlin-Schönefeld GmbH
Project volume:
€ 630,000,000
Project description
Due to a rail connection, the accessibility of the airport by long distance transport (ICE, IC, IR), regional transport (RE) and local transport (Berlin suburban railway) and with a separate airport express will be ensured. Furthermore, the connection of the tank and freight area will also be guaranteed.
With the rail facilities available until now, optimum exploitation was not possible. The basis for the reconstruction and expansion of the rail facilities were the railway concept and the existing railway infrastructure, which will particularly experience a repurposing in the south Berlin outer ring (BOR) between Glasower Damm and the existing Schönefeld train station.
In order to link passenger transport by rail and air together, using short routes, it was necessary to guide the railway (long distance, regional and local passenger transport) directly underneath the terminal, and build an airport train station.
