Service period:
2003 – 2016

Project client:
DB ProjektBau GmbH

Project volume:
€ 35,000,000

Project description

The 130 year old single track railway bridge crosses the Danube near Deggendorf, and is a significant impediment to shipping, due to the low clearance height.

The elimination of bottlenecks on the federal waterway Rhine-Main-Danube is an aim of the European transport policy.

Thanks to the new railway bridge, the current clearance height of approx. 4.40 m will be extended to 8m, and the clearance width of 40 m to >90 m for the meeting traffic, taking into account the 100 year flood event.

The new build of the 466 m long steel framework bridge using the incremental launch method, was carried out while maintaining rail and shipping transport.

The construction, alongside the existing structure (around 15 m upstream) and lifting the railway line (around 3.8 m), required an approx. 2 km long line relocation of the railway track, due to which three further railway overpasses (RO) and a branchline also had to be adjusted.
