Service period:
2015 – 2020

Project client:
DB ProjektBau GmbH

Project volume:
€ 115,000,000

Project description

The 983-m-long Hönebach tunnel is located on the route 6340 Halle (Saale) – Bebra.

The commissioning occurred in 1849, and the last partial renovation took place in 1992.

The tunnel portals of the landmarked structure, are elaborately designed with four identical towers.

The coverage of the tunnel is max. approx. 38 m.

There are currently problems in the area of the floor of the tunnel, including the drainage facilities.

Furthermore, there are reveals, cavities, flaking and cracks in the tunnel.

There are shifts in the cornice stones in the portals.

The niches show strong weathering processes.

In a variant observation, various solutions should be identified and evaluated. One of them describes a replacement during ongoing operation, with the tunnel-in-tunnel method.

Further variants plan a replacement new building, in a parallel location.

With tunnel lengths over 1,000 m, it will continue to be investigated whether the existing tunnel can be converted into a single track tube.
