Project description

To improve the service for passengers, and to reduce the journey times on the route Erfurt – Würzburg, the use of tilting technology multiple train units was planned, with start of operations from 2004.

Five electronic signal box systems and 16 railway crossings were included in the plans for the 2nd project section. The railway crossing safety installations have been updated. In addition, 5 RCs were equipped with new light signal systems, including a railway crossing with 2 automatic danger zone track vacancy alarm systems. Surveillance type and striking in distance of existing URCT (uniform railway crossing technology) systems were adjusted to the changed infrastructure.

The at-grade crossing transport systems were adjusted in accordance with the new transport and track superstructure requirements, in agreement with the relevant road construction planners.
