New build of a steelworks and rolling mill in Balakowo, new build plant railway

The second largest Russian steel group “Sewerstal” built a steelworks and rolling mill in Balakowo (Saratov region, South Russia), for an annual production of one million tonnes of rolled steel.

As a Russian subsidiary of the Austrian company Strabag SE, ZAO Strabag carried out the procedure as the general building contractor.

The plant obtained its own connecting railway, on a track system of around 16km track length, with 28 points.

Its own central signal box, an engine shed with spaces for rail operation (wagon dispatcher, marshaller, radio system), several dynamic track scales and loading and unloading points were built.
