Opis projektu

The approx. 9-km-long distance and regional rail connection between the north and south Berlin inner ring road, runs in tunnels for approx. 3.5 km.

According to the spatial conditions, various construction processes were used.

Furthermore, the use of the shield tunnelling machine was not possible in the area of the Spreebogen, as the underpass was only one metre below the bed of the Spree.

Peat soil, digested sludge, over 100-years-old embankments and tunnel torsos from the Nazi era, were additional challenges to the tunnel builder.

At the same time, the natural and structural historical environment of the tunnel building site had to be secured.

In the area of the Lehrte train station, the Spree underpass and the regional train station Potsdamer Platz, the tunnel was built with an open construction method.

The ramps to the south of the Landwehr Canal were built in a Caisson procedure.

Between the Reichstag and the Gleisdreieck train station, the mining procedure of shield tunnelling was used.
