The redesign of the junction Magdeburg included the erection of a new electronic signal box in the 1st expansion stage, as the signal box technology used until now, was no longer up to date.

Three electronic signal box subsystems (ESTW-UZ) were erected, including the required cable laying works. Existing cable systems located in the construction field had to be repositioned with significant expense. This required a high level of flexibility from everyone involved, to guarantee a flawless construction procedure.

Apart from the production of the electronic signal box subsystems and the cable laying, 24 signal bridges/signal brackets had to be set up.

The overhead contact line was renewed in sections (feeder line).

In some areas, unused tracks and points were removed and not replaced.
