Opis projektu
Washingtonplatz is on the South side of Berlin central train station, between the train station building and the Spree.
It is an important link on the route from the central train station, to the parliament and government quarter.
In a first expansion stage, the square was fixed with asphalt and a water resistant covering.
In the course of the final expansion of Washingtonplatz, these materials were demolished, and the surfaces and design elements of the square were made from Silesian granite.
Approx. 6,000 m² of granite slabs were laid, and almost 9,000 m² of small cobblestones made of granite were integrated.
Furthermore, a staircase made of granite block steps was built, to reach the entrance level.
The integration of natural stone seating elements, and natural stone benches served as design elements for the square.
On the West side of Washingtonplatz, a grove of trees was planted, which is bordered by supporting wall elements made of granite.
